Rants, Raves, products you just have to have, fallacies in the land of IT - all this and more will be yours when you read the Mainline Blog “Shhh… IT Happens”.
Just a tidbit to get started. Telling your IT person you can’t ever get a virus because you only open mail from people you know - not so effective in this day and age.
Spammers have become quite adept at hacking the password on AOL, Gmail, Hotmail and many of the other, older email services. I’m guessing the appeal of the older services is many people have had them forever and they created their password back before security became an issue. Once they’ve worked out the password - it’s now open season to email cryptic, one liner emails with a link in them to anyone unlucky enough to be in the address book. And voila! You are now getting spyware and virus’ from people you know.
Bottom line. Use an anti-virus. Don’t click on links that don’t make sense (does your great aunt really send you one liner emails saying “I got rich with this?”). And, to use an old television line, “Just Be Safe Out There.”
